 ::: Ben Watt Interview Ben Watt is still best-known as half of the duo Everything but the Girl, which first performed together in 1982. That year, EBTG's Tracey Thorn released her solo debut, A Distant Shore, while Watt released his, North Marine Drive, the following year. Watt's LP went to number one on the U.K. indie charts and included a cover of Bob Dylan's "You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go." Everything but the Girl's early material was lite-jazz, but their major international breakthrough came in the dance music genre with Todd Terry's 1995 remix of the song "Missing," which originally appeared on the album Amplified Heart... ::: Read the Interview |

The beauty of staying at the Shelborne all week was that it was easy for us to catch some late night beats from some great events. This night it was Ben Watt's Buzzin Fly imprint's event and as we rolled into the venue, the main man was in charge of the decks and rocking a proper blend of house music for mature palettes. With a smooth blend of dubby bumpers and silky vocals including several Tracey Thorn cuts (go figure), we thoroughly enjoyed Ben's musical devices. What made this night special was the fact we ran into a whack of friends from Toronto, Montreal, New York, Los Angeles and the UK. It's random meetings and nights like this that make Miami so special. Just running into distant friends that you normally hang out with over IM as opposed to in person and it's these moments where your global friends become something more than just an email address.
